Lawrence Roberson Obituary

Lawrence Roberson CHESAPEAKE - Lawrence Gary Roberson, 58, of the 1100 block of St. Julian Drive, passed away July 4, 2010 in Southampton County, Virginia. A native of Hemenway, S.C., he was the son of the late Clinton and Willa Mae Roberson. He worked at Dail's Home Center in Franklin, Va., and was a U.S. Naval veteran. He attended Deep Creek Baptist Church. Gary was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his former wife, Deborah A. Roberson; his daughter, Keri Roberson both of Chesapeake; his son, Clifton Roberson and wife Melissa of San Antonio, Texas; his sister, Carolyn McDaniel; and brother, Clinton Roberson Jr. both of Summerville, S.C.; and a grandchild, Mia Roberson of San Antonio. He was predeceased by a sister, Stephanie. A funeral will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, with David Zey officiating. The burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the charity of one's choice. I grew up as a friend of Gary's and had not seen him since I left for College in 1964, but I remember him well and may his family have the blessings of peace during this time of sadness.

I knew Gary for close to 30 years. I remember meeting him for the 1st time at a Murcheson show in Wilmington, North Carolina. Over the years fished with him and drank a few beers with him.
