Lorine R. Bousman Obituary
Lorine R. Bousman

Norfolk - Our great loss is heaven's gain. There is celebration in heaven today, laughter and possibly the smell of pound cake at the arrival of Lorine Roberts Bousman. Lorine passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, February 20, 2014.

Born on May 4, 1918 in Roanoke, Virginia, she was the daughter of Elberth and Etta Roberts and was the oldest of six children. Lorine moved to Norfolk, Virginia as a young newly married woman after her beloved husband went to fight in World War II. She took a job with the 5th Naval District receiving and dispatching telegrams to the families of wounded and lost soldiers. She created a home in Monticello Village where she and husband, Preston Wade Bousman would raise their seven children. On Sundays in this home she never knew whether she would have two or twenty for dinner but she always served wonderful country style meals with little or no notice.

For more than 14 years Lorine provided daycare in her home. She became the office manager for Brooks Transfer and Storage once the children grew up and left home and worked there for a number of years.

Lorine was a bright, resourceful, nurturing woman and a woman of strong faith. She was a long time member of the Sunshine Circle of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, was active in United Methodist Women and Church Women United serving in several capacities and served as a delegate to the Annual Conference for many years. She also delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. Upon moving to Chesapeake Lorine joined Good Hope United Methodist Church where she attended bible study, put together health kits for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), served on the Administrative Board and made great friends. She liked to joke that the sales of her famous six flavored pound cake put a new roof on the church. She loved to make and costume porcelain dolls, sew and was even a bit of a writer. She left a folder of prayers, tributes, devotions and poems behind to remind us of her great faith. One line in her writing exemplifies her life, "Never underestimate the power of a mother's prayer and a strong sense of faith in our awesome God."

Lorine is predeceased by husband Preston, sisters Edith Mae Roberts and Marie Mills and brother Raymond Roberts. She is survived by a sister, Inez Coates and brother Carl Roberts (Charlene), daughters Linda Pope (William), Luanne McCarty (Ed) and sons David (Sandy), Donald (Libby), Dennis (Kay), Danny (Margy) and Darrell, 24 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

There will be a visitation at the Tidewater Drive Chapel of Holomon-Brown in Norfolk, VA on Saturday, February 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Norfolk on February 23 at 3 p.m. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the church social hall. Interment will be at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, VA at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 24.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Good Hope United Methodist Church, Chesapeake Area Shelter Team (CAST) or a .
