Marcus Johnson Obituary

Marcus A. Johnson Sr. NORFOLK - On Nov. 10, 2010 Marcus Alton Johnson Sr. departed this life peacefully. He was born June 30, 1937 in Littleton, N.C., to the late Whitt and Otelia Johnson. He graduated from McIver High School in Littleton, and received his bachelor's degree in building construction from Bluefield State College in Bluefield, W.Va. He later attained a bachelor's degree in business administration from Norfolk State University. Marcus retired from Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority after 37 years of service and later worked for the Franklin Housing Authority as acting executive director. At an early age, Marcus became a member of Fidelity Baptist Church in Littleton. After moving to Norfolk, he became a faithful member of First Calvary Baptist Church where he served as head of the Deacon Board. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marjorie; three sons, Marcus Jr. and his wife Natalya, Kyle, and Ricky and his wife Kristie; two grandsons, Maxim and Nikita; a stepgranddaughter, Gabrielle; three brothers and four sisters. A viewing will be held Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Family will be receiving friends at the family home Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. A homegoing service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. at First Calvary Baptist Church, 813 Henry St., Norfolk. Marjorie,
I was sad to hear of Marcus' passing. He was always there when we needed him to assist with the family reunions when they were held in Virginia Beach. He will truly be missed. I know God is with you and your family.
