Margery M. Canfield NORFOLK - Margery McCann Canfield, 91, passed away peacefully June 1, 2010 at her home. She was born May 1, 1919 in Midland, Mich. She graduated from the Kingswood School, Bloomfield Hills, Mich., (Class of 1938) and Pine Manor College, Wellesley, Mass (Class of 1940). She met and married the love of her life, the late William B. Canfield Jr., on March 13, 1943. After his untimely death in 1981, she courageously carried on and moved to Virginia Beach, from Grosse Pointe, Miss. She always treasured and was active in the Junior League of Detroit, the Galilee Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach, and the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. She is survived by her two sons, William B. III (Paige) of Bethesda, Md., and Thomas F. (Milagros) of Hanover, N.H. She was fondly called "Mamma Marge" by her three grandchildren, Tom Jr., Anna, and Sumner. Her family including her niece and three nephews and many friends will remember her for her eternal youthfulness, zest for life and her devotion to family. She had a special gift for fashion and talent unrivaled for knitting. She will be especially missed by her caregiver, Ruth Swartzentruber, who also lovingly cared for her mother, Florence Broderick McCann. A memorial service in Virginia Beach will be held at Galilee Episcopal Church on Thursday, June 24, at 11 a.m. with another memorial service and interment to be held in Detroit at Elmwood Cemetery in August.
