Marian Martell Obituary

Marian Brothers Martell VIRGINIA BEACH - Marian Brothers Martell died quietly April 5, 2010 after a long illness. Marian was born Aug. 5, 1920 to Stephen and Cecie Brothers on her family's farm in Weeksville, N.C. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Major William Martell, U.S. Army retired, and her sister, Hope Lawrence. Marian moved to Virginia Beach at seven years old - when her love of the oceanfront began. She met and married William Martell. During their early married life, the couple traveled extensively while Major Martell served in the Army. Eventually, Marian returned to her beloved beach permanently. Marian was an avid reader and antique collector. She also loved flowers and family would often find heirloom irises planted in their gardens. The flowers will be a lovely reminder of the unique person Marian was. Marian is survived by her daughter, Cecie Cox and husband Larry of Saline, Mich., and her son, William Martell and wife Nancy of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Christopher Cox (Lori) and Nicole Egeler (David); two great-grandsons; nieces and a nephew. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA, 3040 Holland Road. Arrangements are in the care of Altmeyer Funeral Home. 1801 Baltic Ave.
