Marion Runyon Obituary

Marion E. Runyon CHESAPEAKE - Marion E. Runyon of Elbow Road passed away Monday, April 26, 2010, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was 86 years old. She was born May 26, 1923 in Buffalo, N.Y. and enjoyed an active retirement for 24 years. She volunteered for 18 years at Sentara Oak Grove Nursing Center and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1990. In 1994, she was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the city of Chesapeake for her many years of service to the city. Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Wendy Steen, her husband, Joe of Chesapeake; a son, Craig Runyon of Norfolk; three granddaughters and their husbands; four great- grandchildren; and many, many friends. A private memorial service will be held by the family later in the week. In lieu of flowers, those who loved her are encouraged to make a donation in her name to the American Lung Association. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Great Bridge Chapel, Chesapeake. Friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.omanfh. com.

I came into Marion’s life as a teen-aged friend of Wendy’s and have been “part of the family” for over 40 years now. Over those years I came to love Marion for the kind and caring role model that she was. All of our worlds are diminished by the loss of Marion, but her spirit and character will live on through her children, her grandchildren and generations to come. Go in Peace, Marion, and may God bless you for the admirable job you did here on earth.
