Martha Ohop Obituary

Martha F. O'Hop NORFOLK- Martha "Frances" O'Hop, 91, passed away from natural causes Aug. 19, 2009. Mrs. O'Hop was born in Hudson, N.Y., and was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Joseph R. O'Hop. She was a founding member of TWBA/NBA and in 1992 won the ABC/WIBC National Senior Women's Class A Championship. She was a member of TWBA and Virginia State Hall of Fame. The 1999 Virginia Senate presented Fran a commendation (Bill No. 355) for her success and service to the sport of bowling. In 1944, she received a City of Norfolk seamstress award. Fran was a member of St. Pius X since 1955, volunteering in numerous parish activities. She and Joe traveled extensively. Survivors include three children, Lois Pichardo and husband Fortunato of Virginia, Josie Womble and husband, George of Florida, Joe O'Hop and wife Linda of Florida; six grandchildren, Scott Erickson, Dr. Catherine Burgess, Tarn Krumm, John Curls, Candy Thornton, Stephanie Parker; and 20 great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery Oct. 19, 2009, at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norview Chapel, is assisting the family. Friends may share memories and condolences at www.mem.com.
