Maximo R. Paez|
Chesapeake - Maximo Reynoso Paez passed away peacefully into eternal rest on February 22 after a brave battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Born on the island of Marinduque in the Philippines, Maximo retired from the United States Navy, was a Vietnam veteran, and retired from the US Postal Service. He was 74.
Maximo is predeceased by his wife, Bonnie, his parents Petra and Jose, and siblings Rufino Paez, Auria Regio, Francisco Paez, Primitiva Lozada and Policarpio Paez.
He is survived by his daughters, Angela Paez of Prince George, Va., and Amanda Paez, of Danville, Va. He is also survived also by his sister, Margerita Portento and her husband Johnny of Manila, Philippines; his in-laws, Helen Robertson, Charlene Britt, and Kathy Saunders and her husband Robert; many wonderful nieces and nephews, and a large extended family around the world. He loved and appreciated all the support they provided during his treatment. Maximo was member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Portsmouth and a member of the Moose Lodge 898. He enjoyed cruising, traveling to visit family in the Philippines, and cheering for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Maximo was a strong person in mind and spirit, and will be remembered as an amazing father and friend. He will truly be missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at the VCU Massey Cancer Center, the Dalton Oncology Clinic, the VCU Neurology Unit, and Sentara Hospice for their care, concern, and support.
A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, February 25, in St. Paul's Catholic Church by the Rev. Jarek Nowacki. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Mausoleum with full military honors. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel Friday from 7 - 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the VCU Massey Cancer Center.
