Maye Martens Obituary

Maye E. Martens VIRGINIA BEACH - Maye "Maisie" Eden Martens, 93, of Virginia Beach and a longtime resident of Norfolk, died April 25, 2010. Mrs. Martens was born in Washington, N.C., the daughter of the late Charles H. Eden and Maye Williams Eden Martin. Her sister, Evelyn Fleming, preceded her in death. Married to her late husband Robert A. Martens for 63 wonderful years, they had five children together. The Martens enjoyed living at their home and boat marina in Norfolk. Mrs. Martens was a former member of the Norfolk Seniors and many years ago was an active member of the Republican Women's Club serving as past secretary, treasurer and president. She enjoyed working with ceramics and was a talented musician. She was loved and will surely be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include a son, Anton Martens and wife Susan of Spring Grove, Va. and four daughters, Kerry Bradshaw and husband Carl of Kitty Hawk, N.C., Cecelia Young and late husband Ronald of Atlantic Beach, N.C., Lynette Godwin and husband Donald of Kitty Hawk, Cynthia Baker and late husband Robert of Chesapeake. In addition, 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren also survive Mrs. Martens. Mrs. Martens was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Godwin and a great- grandson, Noland Leonard. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29, at the Chesapeake chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments by Chaplin Chris Fosback. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. Online condolences may be sent to the family at hdoliver. com.
