Medford L. Bloodworth
Portsmouth - Medford Lee Bloodworth, 79, passed peacefully at home with his family on Thursday, July 4, 2013 after a long battle with heart disease. He was a patriotic veteran, church member and family man.
Born in Charlotte, NC, he was predeceased by his parents Timothy and Martell Bloodworth and a son, Shawn Bloodworth. Medford moved to Portsmouth in his early childhood and graduated from Woodrow Wilson H.S. He worked in the Service Department of Tyree Jones Ford Dealership where he met his wife, Bettye. He served in the US Army. He worked at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in the RADCON division until he retired in 1993. He also retired from Army National Guard Reserves. Medford acted as Officer of Elections at the polls.
Medford was survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Bettye Bloodworth; son, Jeffery Bloodworth (Debra) of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Ethan and Adam Bloodworth; sisters, Linda Rary (Harold) and Nancy Bennett; and daughter-in-law, Valerie Bloodworth.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel Sunday from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veterans Cemetery.
