Michael Savvides Obituary

Michael C. Savvides VIRGINIA BEACH - Michael Charalambous Savvides passed away Nov. 19, 2010 in his home in Virginia Beach. He was born Nov. 2, 1928 in Famagusta, Cyprus. Michael was a watchdog over his businesses and the people around him. He was a faithful Orthodox Christian. Michael was predeceased by his brother, Saveras H. Savvides. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Anthoula P. Savvides; niece, Helen S. Anoia and her husband Richard P. Anoia and their sons, Peter R. and Saveras A.; niece, Antigoni A. Savvides; nephew, Harry H. Savvides and his daughter, Dorothy K. Savvides. He has extended family remaining in Cyprus and London, England. Helen Bensley was his close and caring friend. There will be a Trisagion service today at 6:30 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. Fr. Constantine P. Rogakos, Ph.D. Priest. A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral by the very Rev. Archimandrite, Ambrose Bitziadis-Bowers, Dean. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com.

Mike served as a valuable volunteer at Old Dominion University in the mid-eighties and it was my pleasure to meet and know him in that capacity. He was a man of integrity and honor. He will be missed by many.
