Montague Jones Jr. CHESAPEAKE - Montague Jones "Monty" Jr., 78, of the 600 block of Indian Cedar Drive, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2010. Born in Orangeburg, S.C., Mr. Jones was the owner of Jones Printing Service of Chesapeake. He was charter member and deacon at Elizabeth River Baptist Church, and former member of Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church and the Rock Church of Virginia Beach. He attended Hargrave Military Academy and graduated from Norview High School. Mr. Jones was a Korean War veteran and attended the College of William and Mary, Norfolk division. He apprenticed under Mr. Harry I. Teagle at Advertising Service Agency in Norfolk and co-owned and operated A.S.A. for 25 years. He was the proud founder and past president of Jones Printing Service, a third generation printing firm in Chesapeake since 1976. He was a member of Kempsville Masonic Lodge No. 196 AF & AM. During the 1960s and 1970s, Monty spent his evenings and weekends coaching young boys, his own five sons in the gyms and on the ball fields of the Plaza Recreation League in Virginia Beach, where he served as president for many years. He was most pleased in his later years when a former young player would recognize him and thank him for being their coach when they were little. Our father lived his life by the Golden Rule and encouraged us by his examples to do the same: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Your love and kindness will not be forgotten. He is survived by his beloved wife of 11 years, Grace Keel Ripley-Jones; a daughter, Lisa R. Sibley and husband Grant of Chesapeake; seven sons, Clyde Jones and wife Joann of Virginia Beach, Bryan Jones and wife Teresa of Chesapeake, Harry Jones and wife Allison of Chesapeake, Bruce Jones and wife Sherry of Chesapeake, Charles Jones and wife Susan of Chesapeake, Stanley Ripley of Portsmouth, and Stephen Ripley and wife Dana of Stanardsville, Va.; a brother, Dr. Albert McCray Jones and wife Elsie of Washington, N.C.; 21 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Flowers Jones; father, Montague Jones Sr.; mother, Frances Caton Jones-Walker; and stepdaughter, Sharon K. Linkous. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elizabeth River Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard B. Saul officiating. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
