Virginia Beach - Nina Ellen Cunningham passed away in Virginia Beach, VA on October 14, 2012. Nina was the daughter of Ellis B. Cunningham and Lyda Sutherland Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her mother.
Nina was a loving wife and step-mother. She is survived by her husband Stephen Rowan, step-son Casey Rowan, father Ellis B. Cunningham, sister Nancy Cunningham, her two pet cockatiel birds, Pretty Boy and Tootsie, and Steve's family; Jim and Mavis Rowan, Rick and Stacy Brown (nieces Erica and Emily), and Stuart Rowan .
Nina was a 1973 graduate of Manchester High School in Chesterfield County, and a graduate of the University of Georgia. Prior to attending the University of Georgia she also attended Morehead State University in Kentucky. Nina was a leader in the local chapters of the UGA Alumni club and in PRSA - Public Relations Society of America. She was very involved in local charities including Relay for Life, March for Babies, Stop Hunger Now and the Food Bank. Nina was also a long time member of River Road Church - Baptist in Richmond Virginia.
Nina started her career in radio in Sarasota Florida in 1979 and worked at several radio stations as an on-air radio personality in Florida, Dallas Texas, and in Virginia. In 1993 Nina changed her career path and began working in Public Relations and Marketing, much of that time at the corporate office of Liberty Tax Service.
A funeral service and a celebration of Nina's life will be held at Virginia Beach Christian Church located at 2225 Rose Hall Drive, Virginia Beach, VA. The service will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The family wishes to thank the staff, doctors and nurses at Sentara Virginia Beach General and Sentara Hospice, and special thanks to her friends at Liberty Tax.
