I took Scoobie and Scrappy to the vet today, and the pretty blonde vet - I'm sure you know the one - told me Reffy came in a month ago for his latest laser therapy, that she misses you and still talks about you, that you were larger than life. We all miss you.

I just learned today about Nolan's passing. He and I were roommates for two years at Tulane and spent much time discussing his passion for refereeing and golf. We also enjoyed watching the Tonight Show whenever Don Rickles would appear. Our discussions involving Joe Gushue are also memorable. We drifted apart after I graduated, but he has never been forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I knew Nolan as a young man, before and during high school. He was always smiling. He played golf for Maury HS and I played for Granby. I remember his short, yet powerful golf swing. When we were 15-16 he had a set of Haig Ultra golf clubs, and as a result I wanted a set too. My last memory of him was in 71 or 72 at the Sewells Point golf course. He teed up on the 10th hole a par 3 and hit a powerful and long ball just off the green. Nolan was not happy. I remember thinking, boy, I wish I could hit ANY ball that far. RIP Nolan.

I am forcing myself to come to terms regarding Nolan's departure from our lives. And that's why I'm acknowledging it the only way I can, which is to write the following.
Nolan hired me to help him maintain his already immaculate home 3 years ago. As the weeks and months went on, we became good friends. We used to joke about who would out live the other. We had many, many conversations. Some were funny, some were very sad. As someone else said "he "listened" when you spoke to him. Even if he had a pen in his hand he would put it down, turn a bit more your way, tilt his head slightly and listen to you. You could tell that he was interested in what you were saying. Nolan definitely could be a bit rash from time to time but he had a very sensitive and loving soul that by far out weighed it. I hope and pray that he is at piece now and realizes how much he was and always will be loved.
God Bless You Mitchel, Peggy, Mom and the girls
In my heart of hearts, I believe I got to truly know him and what a sensitive man he was. All of the beautiful things all of you have said and will remember about him are true but to me,that just scratches the surface of what kind of man he was.

I was devastated by Nolan's passing. We spoke pretty much daily and I will miss those times. If he ever felt I might need help, he would always offer even when he was suffering physically. Please know that beneath that gruff exterior, he loved his family, especially his girls.

Words can not describe my heartfelt sadness as I write this. I first met Nolan Fine the 1st time that he brought his beloved pet Reffy to the vet as a puppy. We have been fast friends, co care givers, and confidants (who doesn't confide in a care giver?!) since about 2003. We have been through many an illness and many a phone call and many a councilling session. I am proud to call him a great friend and acquaintance. He will be terribly missed. I wish I knew how to help more. With much love and sincere sympathy.

I consider it to be an honor to have had the pleasure of calling Nolan a friend and a mentor. When I decided to pursue becoming a basketball official , my father told me about a young man, who was my age, who began his officiating career refereeing intramural games at Maury High School and then at Tulane. I was fortunate enough to have Nolan become my mentor both on the basketball court and on the softball field. Nolan's kind and nurturing manner made him an excellent role model, not only for me, but for all aspiring officials in the Tidewater area for decades. I was extremely proud of Nolan's accomplishments in the NCAA and in the NBA. I am deeply saddened by Nolan's passing and my thoughts and prayers are with his family.
