Norman C. Powers
Portsmouth - Norman Coleman Powers, 84, of Chatham Rd. passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013 in a local hospital. He was born on January 12, 1929 in Norfolk, VA to the late Norman and Gertrude Powers. After proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was held captive as a P.O.W. for 27 months; Norman went on to retire from the Norfolk & Western Railroad with over 20 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janet H. Powers; a daughter, Linda "Darlene" Webb; two sons, Ralph "Randy" Powers and his wife Lynn and Vernon E. Powers; a brother, Robert C. Powers; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6:30 - 8 PM.
Memorial donations may be made to the D.A.V. in his memory.
