Realer Whitaker Obituary

Realer B. Whitaker PORTSMOUTH - The angels of the most high God escorted Realer Bell Brinkley Whitaker to her heavenly home Thursday evening, June 24, 2010. Realer was born Nov. 25, 1931 in Enfield, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Mazie Harvey Brinkley. Realer was the widow of Perry David "Sport" Whitaker with whom she wed Aug. 14, 1951 and celebrated more than 41 years of devout love and marital bliss. They were faithful, committed parents to their nine children, seven sons and two daughters. At the breaking of day or the close of night, she devotedly knelt by her bed in sincere prayer to her God. She would fondly speak of her ushering days in Enfield at Saint Chapel Baptist Church the place of her spiritual development and baptism. As an adult, she was a member of the First Church of Newport News, (Baptist). She later moved her membership to the Mount Hermon Baptist Temple, immediately following her son's installation as pastor. Realer was a gifted student in the Halifax County school system of North Carolina. She was employed for many years at the National Line Service in Newport News and retired from the Coliseum Nursing Home in Hampton. She was preceded in death by a son, Danny K. Whitaker; three sisters, Corie and Mazie Brinkley and Veronica B. Pearson; and two brothers, Lloyd and Lonnie L. Brinkley. She leaves to cherish her memory six sons and two daughters, Nelson Whitaker, David Whitaker, Calvin L. Whitaker, the Rev. Silva S. Whitaker, Lonnie E. Whitaker, Patrice W. Woods (Austin), Dr. Leo Whitaker (Cathy) and Mitchell Whitaker; 21 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; one sister, Glossene B. Morman; six sisters-in-law; nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. A service of celebration will be held Thursday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at Mount Hermon Baptist Temple, 2901 London Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23707, with Bishop C. Vernie Russell Jr. officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Cooke Brothers Funeral Chapel.

To the entire Whitaker family, my heart was sadden when I read about your mother crossing over. I was reflecting on the days that the 2 family shared with each other. Your mother was a neighborhood mother, she will be missed by many. Hold on to the times that you shared with her, each one of you have a special moment, they will keep you all the way through. She faught a good fight, she ran the race, now she is resting in the arms of The Almighty. Family be strong and stay together.

Dear Cousins,

I was quite sad to hear of Aunt Realer's passing but I am thankful for her life and for those of us she touched with her beautiful smile and loving heart. She is now with her beloved "Sport". I'm sure he has alot of stories to tell her.

She's also there with Danny K, her sisters, Mazielle, Corie and Veronica, brother, Lloyd and her parents. Last but not least she's there with my Dad...her brother, Linwood. I'm sure there was quite a celebration upon her arrival.

I am praying for each of you at this time and asking God to watch over you and to strengthen the natural bond that exists between you as sisters and brothers.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
