Richard Perry Obituary

Richard L. Perry III CHESAPEAKE - Richard L. Perry III, 70, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 10, 2010 in Sentara Nursing Center, Virginia Beach. Richard "Dick" was a native of Norfolk but lived most of his life in Churchland, Va. He was the son of the late Richard L. Perry Jr.; and Alice Perry Baker and his Pop, Elton Baker. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Richard L. Perry IV and his wife Connie of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Carolyn Cayton of Virginia Beach, Patty Bennett and her husband Gary of Chesapeake, and Fran Nagle and her husband Jim of Virginia Beach; several nieces and nephews, especially nephews, Curtis, Michael and Kevin Cayton of Virginia Beach; and many friends. Richard worked in construction many years but was severely injured and retired early. He enjoyed fishing, Redskin games, and golf on television. Richard was a member of West Park Church of Christ in Portsmouth. Our family would like to express our sincere appreciation for the love, prayers, visits, meals and encouragement he received from his many church family friends during his long illness. A special thank you to Keith Lewis, and Kirk and Robin Flanagan. It was because of their love and devotion he made it this far. Richard was truly blessed to have them as part of his journey home to be with the Lord. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road in Virginia Beach with Mr. Keith Lewis officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West Park Church of Christ, Portsmouth, or to the the Foodbank of Virginia. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com.
