Richard McNutt Obituary

Richard L. McNutt ROANOKE - The Rev. Richard L. "Mac" McNutt, 93, died Monday evening, April 19, 2010. He was born in Mason City, Iowa on Jan. 28, 1917, a son of the late Lee Anderson and Inez Lawrence McNutt. The Rev. McNutt earned an associate's degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska and his bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University. He completed a course of study from Duke Divinity School. The Rev. McNutt served in the U.S. Navy from 1934- 1959, retiring with 25 years service. He entered the ministry in 1964 in the Virginia conference and retired in 1984. Since his retirement, he served at Melrose United Methodist Church. He was a member of Webber High Twelve Masonic Lodge No. 282. The Rev. McNutt was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Kingery McNutt and is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lee F. and Carol A. McNutt of Richmond; his daughter and son- in-law, Barbara Jean and Colton L. Brooks Sr. of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren, Kelly McNutt Wells and husband Brian, Lee Anderson McNutt and wife Nicole, all of Richmond, C. Lohr Brooks Jr. and wife Audrey of Antioch, Tenn., Darrell William Brooks and wife Jeannette of Virginia Beach; great-grandchildren, Kayla Brooks, Zachary Brooks, Brody McNutt, Brad Wells, Josie Wells, Brian Brooks, Noah Brooks, Lucas Brooks and Alexis Ward; and his sister, Margaret Snyder of Mason City, Iowa. A funeral celebrating his life will be held at Fairview United Methodist Church Friday, April 23, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald W. Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Samaritan Fund, VUMH Inc., for the Roanoke Home in the Rev. McNutt's memory. The family will receive friends Thursday 4 to 7 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 540-982-2100.
