Norfolk - Richard "Dick" Thomas Cordner, 74, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2013. Born in Sparta, WI, son of the late Thomas and Esther Cordner. He was the beloved husband for 53 years to Edith Marie Cordner; loving father of David (Sylvia) Cordner, Sandra (Ralph) Davis, Timothy (Michele) Cordner, and Jonathan (Lisa) Cordner, grandfather of Jessica, Kasey and Richard Cordner, Lexi, and Rachel Davis and Rebecca, Ashley and Meghan Cordner; brother of Margaret Erickson, Helen Tomlin, Elizabeth Berckman, Emma Loeffelholtz, Robert Cordner, and Thomas H. Cordner, Jr; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Dick lived to serve God, his family and his country. He was a founding member of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served faithfully in many capacities. He was an electronics technician in the US Navy & retired after 24 years as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Dick then continued his trade in private industry until 2011.
The family will receive friends on Sunday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd., Virginia Beach from 2-4 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 AM in Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church, 916 Centerville Tpk. North, Chesapeake. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Sparta, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church or .
