Robert Macioci Obituary

Robert D. Macioci SUFFOLK - Retired Master Sgt. Robert David Macioci of Suffolk and formerly of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away at his home June 16, 2010 surrounded by his family after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was born April 20, 1942 to the late Sidney A. and Nell Macioci. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Robert D. "Bobby" Macioci Jr. He was a 20-year Air Force veteran having served in Vietnam. He was awarded a Bronze Star with V for Valor because of his heroism while under enemy fire. In addition to Vietnam, he served twice in Germany, Texas, Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, and Minot, N.D. For most of his 20-year career, he was an aircraft maintenance superintendent. Following retirement, he moved back home to Lancaster and worked at what he knew best, automobile mechanic. Upon his father's retirement from Macioci's Garage, Robert took a small one man family business and expanded, improved, and served the Lancaster community with pride and honesty for 24 years, when in 2005 he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He then moved to Suffolk to be near his children and grandchildren. His passions in life were his work, his family, friends, and NASCAR. After years of attending races, he gave up the traveling and watched from his "NASCAR room," where he was surrounded by a massive collection of memorabilia, including an area for his all time favorite, "The King" Richard Petty. Robert is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jean Macioci; daughters and sons-in-law, Shelby and Buddy Derrick of Suffolk and Sharon and Ray Wroten of Gates, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Jennifer Macioci of Yorktown; sister, Carol Wears; brother, Larry Macioci both of Lancaster; grandchildren, Christopher Derrick, Jonathan Derrick and his wife Kelli, R.A. Wroten, Thomas Aaron Wroten, Seth Duke; great-grandchildren, Alexis Derrick, Caitlin Derrick and their mother, Shellie Derrick, Haley Wroten, Cayden Derrick and Kaelan Wroten. A funeral will be held Saturday, June 19, at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk. Entombment with full military honors will be held at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery following the service. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
