Robert P. Mauck|
Suffolk - Robert Pershing Mauck, 93, died on November 20, 2012, in Suffolk. He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-five years, Joyce J. Mauck, and his son, Billy Mauck.
The youngest of six children, Bob was born in Harrisonburg, Va. to Augusta Z. and W. Randolph Mauck. He proudly served his country as a technical sergeant in the 839th Bombardment Squadron during World War II. After the war, Bob returned to his new wife in Suffolk and worked for the Virginia Department of Highways, later VDOT, for more than 35 years. He began as a surveyor, then worked as an inspector and project engineer on the construction of sections of I-95 and I-64, and finally retired as assistant resident engineer for Suffolk. After his retirement in 1981, he enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and bargain-hunting, but his passion was growing and sharing vegetables. He was a faithful member of West End Baptist Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by his daughter Becky Winders of Durham, NC; daughter Jean Mauck of Suffolk; grandson Jacob Winders of Durham; grandson Benjamin Winders and his wife, Erika, of Irving TX; and great-granddaughter Audrey Winders of Irving.
