Robert Gillis Obituary

Robert V. Gillis Sr. COLINGTON - Robert Velton Gillis Sr. died peacefully at his home early Nov. 9, 2010 surrounded by his family. Robert was born in Chesapeake April 14, 1943. He was the son of the late Velton Gillis and the late Texanna Jones Gillis, and he was the husband of the late Elizabeth Jean Gillis. Soon after Robert completed his high school studies, he found employment with Ford Motors assembly plant of Norfolk were he worked diligently until his retirement from the company. Eventually he and his beloved pet Taco found their way to the Outer Banks where he cherished his solitary time fishing, keeping up with his NASCAR racing, and doting on his grandchildren. Surviving Robert Gillis Sr. is his beloved daughter and caregiver, Kathy Nicole Rosnato and son-in-law Nick, and two granddaughters, Allison Rosnato and Danielle Rosnato, all of Colington. Robert is also survived by his former wife and friend, Kathy H. Clarey. A celebration of Robert's life will be held at the Gallop Funeral Services Chapel, MP 16, Nags Head, Sunday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m. The Rev. Steve Siegrist will officiate.
