Robert Williams Obituary

Robert W. Williams VIRGINIA BEACH - Robert W. Williams passed away unexpectedly at his home in Virginia Beach, Sept. 27, 2010. Robert was born Oct. 22, 1948 in Gloversville, N.Y., the only son of the late Robert C. Williams and Hilda B. Williams. Mr. Williams was a 1966 graduate of Gloversville High School. He received his BA from Washington and Lee University in Virginia in 1971. Following his graduation, he actively served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army for four years. He resigned his commission in 1975 when he was accepted at Indiana University School of Law. He graduated with distinction in 1978. In 1979, he was admitted to the New York Bar and remained a member in good standing until his death. Williams left Gloversville in 1984 and relocated in Hudson, N.Y., where he found and operated Hudson Marine. He sold the boat dealership in 1993 and moved to Virginia Beach to pursue his interest in ocean recreation and fishing. Robert was also interested in collecting and restoring motorcycles. He leaves behind his two dogs, Teddy and Octavious, whom he loved very much. Robert traveled frequently to Europe where he informally studied architecture and culture. He particularly liked Germany and visited as often as possible. He is survived by his lifelong friends. There will be no calling hours. On Nov. 6, friends are invited to gather to remember Robert and share stories at Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant, 4651 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, from 3 to 6 p.m. Interment will be at a later date in the family plot in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made in Robert's name to the American Lung Association of Virginia, 5349 E. Princess Anne Road, Norfolk, VA 23502. Rob was a good friend to me and without his care and help, my '49 Flathead would not be running. His balanced brake system he spent the last few years perfecting is a wonderful system and has saved me twice already. Rest in peace Rob, I will miss you.
