Ruth Dyke Obituary

Ruth F. Dyke VIRGINIA BEACH - Ruth Dyke died following a multiyear battle with Alzheimer's. She was the daughter of John Edward Floyd and Laura C. Moutray Floyd. She was born May 2, 1932 in Galves- ton, Texas. She graduated from Western High School in Washington, D.C., in 1949 and from American University in 1953. She received her MS in information systems from American University many years later. She was a member of Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church and a lifetime member of A.R.E. She had two successful careers both as a professional musician and as a computer programmer. As a musician she played concerts in the National Cathedral and taught children to love and to play music. As a computer programmer, she became one of the first woman GS-15 at the Civil Service Commission. She even earned her black belt in karate. She is survived by Russell, her husband of 58 years; her daughters, Christine Hebert and Judith Cooper; son-in- law, Gary Cooper; grandchildren, Jean Paul and Jennet Amonte, James Havener and Maria Hebert. She is also survived by her beloved Kitty Cat. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Eastern Shore Episcopal Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church Music Fund. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Ruth's heart, ear and fingers were those of a musician; her mind ushered in the cyber-era. From warm friendship formed over three decades, we extend our love to Russ and her family (including Kitty Cat) as we join them in sadness and joy, wishing her bon voyage for the great adventure ahead.
