Sandie,
It’s Saturday morning and I’m standing next to your casket. A clear, crisp spring day in early April, the dogwood blossoms mirror the white wisps of clouds overhead. The cornflower blue sky beckons me to look up and I see you running in fields of long grass and dandelions.
I remember the many vacations we spent as friends, shivering in Lake Michigan, burning marshmallows on the beach and of course, swimming in a myriad of lakes and pools—if not running and splashing through fresh puddles of rain. You were my confidant of youth, my matron of honor and my listening support “group” as I moved through life’s experiences.
The reverend begins the final prayer of the ceremony and three geese fly overhead; their honking punctuates the Amen. I look up again and the horizon expands while the earth seems to grow smaller—as your gentle soul, loving heart and courageous spirit take flight.
I miss you,
Your ever grateful sister,
kathy

To all those who knew Sandra, and to her family,
We will miss her dearly. and remember her not as we last saw her but as we saw her with a smile on her face and a joy in her heart. God is the True comforter and we must hold fast to Him in sad times as this. May God bless and comfort each of you.
