Saveras Savvides Obituary

Saveras H. Savvides VIRGINIA BEACH - Saveras Haralambou Savvides, known to friends and family as "Steve" and "Papou," passed away Nov. 10, 2010 in his home with his family in Virginia Beach. He was born April 11, 1922 in Famagusta, Cyprus. He immigrated to the United States in 1948. He was a resort businessman for many years. He enjoyed his garden, fig trees, and pomegranates. He was most proud of his grandsons and granddaughter: Peter R. Anoia, Saveras A. Anoia, and Dorothy K. Savvides. Steve is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anthoula P. Savvides; daughter, Helen S. Anoia and her husband Richard P. Anoia; daughter, Antigoni A. Savvides; son, Harry S. Savvides; his aforementioned grandchildren; Pamela K. McKean, mother of Dorothy K.; brother, Michael Char. Savvides; nephews, Stelios Karayiannis and Chris Paphitis. He has extended family remaining in Cyprus and London, England. Steve has many friends in the community, and he loved very much as lifelong friends, Harry and Emily Simmons, and their family. A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral by the Rev. Fr. Constantine P. Rogakos, Ph.D., Priest. The reception will follow the church service and the burial will take place at 2 p.m. in Princess Anne Memorial Park. Online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com. H.D. What an awesome gentleman we have awesome memoreis of him and we will miss him so much my heart aches for the loss this family has been through our love and prayers our with you and your family at this time.

One of the most wonderful people I have ever known. Always a smile on his face. I have wonderful memories of Mr. Savvas and will miss him deeply. Helen, Antigone and Harry and Kyria Anthoula my heart goes out to all of you.

An awesome husband, father, grandfather and neighbor. My heart aches so deeply with the sudden and unexpected loss of such a wonderful man. Anthoula, you were blessed with 54 years with a wonderful husband; Helen, Antigoni and Harry, no one ever had a more loving father who always provided; Peter, Saveras and Dottie, thank God for the years you had with such a wonderful grandfather who set the example for you all to follow on this earth. Honesty, integrity, humility, LOVE. That is how I will always remember Saveras H. Savvides. Love your neighbor and family friend, Paula.
