Saveras Savvides

Saveras H. Savvides VIRGINIA BEACH - Saveras Haralambou Savvides, known to friends and family as "Steve" and "Papou," passed away Nov. 10, 2010 in his home with his family in Virginia Beach. He was born April 11, 1922 in Famagusta, Cyprus. He immigrated to the United States in 1948. He was a resort businessman for many years. He enjoyed his garden, fig trees, and pomegranates. He was most proud of his grandsons and granddaughter: Peter R. Anoia, Saveras A. Anoia, and Dorothy K. Savvides. Steve is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anthoula P. Savvides; daughter, Helen S. Anoia and her husband Richard P. Anoia; daughter, Antigoni A. Savvides; son, Harry S. Savvides; his aforementioned grandchildren; Pamela K. McKean, mother of Dorothy K.; brother, Michael Char. Savvides; nephews, Stelios Karayiannis and Chris Paphitis. He has extended family remaining in Cyprus and London, England. Steve has many friends in the community, and he loved very much as lifelong friends, Harry and Emily Simmons, and their family. A church service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral by the Rev. Fr. Constantine P. Rogakos, Ph.D., Priest.
