Scott Hickling Obituary

Scott Douglas Hickling VIRGINIA BEACH - Scott Douglas Hickling died June 2, 2010 at his home in Virginia Beach. Scott was born March 28, 1960 in Norfolk to Cmdr. Harley and Suzanne Hickling. Scott spent his childhood as many military children have, in many and sometimes exotic locations. His most favorite childhood moments were spent in Hawaii. His family eventually moved to the Hampton Roads area. Scott attended Kempsville High School and graduated from Rock Church Academy in 1978. Scott was a quick, adept, and self-taught learner in many areas including computer science, drawing and astronomy. He was also a gifted guitarist in the truest sense. Scott's many talents and interests led him to several career paths. He was a private security business owner, police officer in Portsmouth, and Franklin, Tenn., computer technician, artist, electrician, and construction tradesman. Scott's trademark quick wit, warmth, and the ability to weave a good story, led Scott to be popular and well liked by friends and family alike. Scott is survived by his children, Benjamin, Kayleigh, and Kimberly; his father, Harley Hickling; his younger brothers, Ross Hickling and his wife Andrea, John Hickling and his wife Charlene, and Jimmy Hickling and his wife Missy; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Suzanne Munro Hickling. A funeral will be held Saturday, June 5, at 10 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. John A. Baldwin officiating. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be made to the family at www.altmeyer.com.
