Stewart Howard Alston
Norfolk - Stewart Howard Alston went home to meet his heavenly Father on August 8, 2012 at Depaul Medical Center. Mr. Alston was the son of the late Rev. Robert J. and Louise Harrison Alston of Norfolk. Mr. Alston was the product of Norfolk Public Schools where he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1947. He went on to further his studies at Virginia Union University and than transferred to Norfolk State College. As a U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Alston was in the Korean War. As an employee of the US Postal Service for over 30 years, he recieved many service awards. Mr. Alston was also a proud member of the Bachelor Benedict Social Club for over 45 years. Mr. Alston was also a proud member of The Historic First Baptist Church Bute Street, where he served as a trustee,deacon,clerk,superintendent of Sunday School,member of the mens chorus and a former president of the Gleaners ministry. Mr. Alston is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doretha F. Alston, children, Victor Alston, Antoinette Lacy(John) and Chrystal Craig(Marc) and five grandchildren, Kendall Lacy, Marc A. Craig, Jaylen A. Craig and Alisa Craig. A homegoing service will be held at First Baptist Church Bute Street on Wednesday August 15, 2012 at 11am and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The viewing will be on Tuesday August 14 from 2-8pm at Riddick Funeral Service, 1225 Norview Ave. Words of Comfort can be expressed at www.riddickfuneralservices.com
