Theodocia Fentress Norfolk - Theodocia "Docie" Fentress accepted her call to rest with our Lord on Friday September 7, 2012. Born May 2, 1943 to the late Nancy McConn and Theodore Patterson and was a resident of Norfolk, VA. She attended Norfolk Public Schools, VUU and NSU. Theodocia retired from the City of Norfolk's Department of Parks and Forestry and as the Minister of Music of The Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Second Calvary Baptist Church until her demise. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband, Merkey Fentress; three daughters, Deborah Fentress and Yolanda Matthews of Norfolk, and Tanya Woods (Lee) of Chesapeake; a son Edward Matthews, Jr; a step-son, Maurice Fentress; a sister Minister Myrna Brown of Norfolk and a brother, Maurice Patterson of Harlem, NY; a special niece Precious Patterson of Baltimore, MD; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grand child. Theodocia is predeceased by a brother William Patterson and cousin Melva Peele. The remains will be ready for viewing at Hale Funeral Home at 12:00 noon on Thursday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and at the residence, 2900 Lens Ave. Norfolk. On Friday, her remains will lie in state from 10:00-12:00 a.m. at Second Calvary Baptist Church, and the service will begin at 12:00 p.m. www.halefuneralhome.com.
