Thomas Butts

Thomas E. Butts VIRGINIA BEACH - Thomas Emmett Butts, 79, of the 400 block of Big Pine Drive, passed away Nov. 7, 2010. Born May 15, 1931 in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of the late Wade and Annabelle Butts. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Eileen Butts Nov. 4, 2010. He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service from May 1948 to December 1967, having served aboard the USS Fulton, USS Orion, and the USS Charles R. Ware DD865. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving father, grandfather and avid sports fan of the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State, New York Yankees and Washington Redskins. Tom also had a brief tryout with the Norfolk Tars, minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa A. Allred and her husband Ricky, and son, George W. Butts and his wife Victoria; six grandchildren, Ricky Allred and wife Kirsten, Lauren Allred, Tara Butts, Gracie Butts, Thomas Butts and Magan Lee, Also surviving is nephew, William Langan and a niece, Anna Mary Mooney. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted for Thomas and his wife Eileen Friday at 1 p.m. in St. Nicholas Catholic Church. The burial will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
