Thomas Nixon Obituary

Thomas F. Nixon VIRGINIA BEACH - Thomas Francis Nixon, 61, passed away April 8, 2010 following a long and heroic battle with cancer. Tom handled his illness with such grace and courage that he was an inspiration to everyone who was part of his journey. His wonderful attitude and approach to living were key elements in what made Tom so amazing to be with and so sorely missed. His family expresses appreciation to his exceptional team of doctors and nurses as well as to all his friends who supported him in so many ways. Tom was born and raised in Worcester, Mass., where he developed his lifelong love of sports, especially football and baseball. He was a member of the Red Sox Nation and the Nova Scotia Canadian Football Officials Association. Tom was also a proud patriot and served as a U.S. Marine in the Vietnam War. Tom was a great dad to Jennifer and Michelle and a great stepdad to Tim and Dan, all of whom reside in Nova Scotia, Canada. He is survived by his devoted wife, Judith Settle, his partner and best friend of 18 years; brother, Michael and wife Amy of Kirby, Vt.; brother Billy and wife Karen of Bridgewater, Mass.; and brother, Paul and wife Diane; sister, Patti-Jane and brother, Steven and wife Debra, all of Worcester; as well as four nephews, two nieces, two great-nephews and three great-nieces. His parents, William C. and Jane A. (Sullivan) Nixon, predeceased him. According to Tom's wishes, the family will celebrate his life later this year on a beach at Cape Cod, Mass., where he had so many wonderful and happy memories. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish to honor Tom's memory might consider a donation to the Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy, 215 67th St., Virginia Beach, VA 23451 or a charity of their choice. Cremation & Funeral Services of Tidewater assisted the family. Thank you Tom, for all the great memories and good times that you brought into our lives. May you rest in peace.
