Chesapeake - Timothy Joshua "Shotgun" Brown passed away on September 19, 2013. He was born in Gates Co., NC, on May 9, 1918, and moved to Portsmouth, VA, with his family as a child. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Walter and Lily Taylor Brown; his brother, Charles Edward Brown; and his son, Timothy Neal Brown.
He served in the Coast Guard in World War II as a Carpenter's Mate, First Class, and was honorably discharged on November 7, 1945. He retired after thirty-seven years in the civil service as a Planner and Estimator in 1976 from the Naval Air Station in Norfolk, VA. He was also employed by the City of Chesapeake in the Department of Parks and Recreation for seven years, retiring in 1983.
He was a long-time member of the Brent-Lox Baptist Church, where he frequently taught the Men's Sunday School Class. He enjoyed many hobbies, including coin collecting, photography, and model railroading. He was a gun collector and enthusiast, and was a great fan of Western Movies and Old West Gunfights. He loved to travel and always enjoyed showing his children Civil War battlefields. He particularly enjoyed yearly visits to Myrtle Beach, SC. He also enjoyed watching college and NFL football and Nascar.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Barbara Rice Brown; two daughters, Barbara Brown Blythe and husband Barry, and Angela Brown Whitfield and husband, Gerald; five grandchildren, Danny Miles, Jr., and wife Jessica, Joshua Miles, Tiffany Miles, Britney Whitfield-Galiney, and Dakota Whitfield; five great-grandchildren; a niece; a great-niece; and a great-nephew.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., September 23, at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Hwy. Chapel. A chapel service will be held at 2 p.m. on September 24, at the funeral Home. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.snellingsfuneralhome.com.
