Vachel Dean Obituary

Vachel Wrenn Dean NORFOLK - Vachel Wrenn Dean, 54, passed away April 29, 2010 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He is survived by his daughters, Sharonda Dean and Mrs. Felicia Walker Brown; his two granddaughters; his brothers, Carlton Dean Sr. and Wilson Thomas III; his sister, Miranda Dean Robinson; four nephews, two uncles; a host of family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Viola Dean and his grandmother, Mrs. Edith Berry of Memphis, Tenn. Vachel was born in Memphis. As a child, he attended Mount Zion AME Church. He became a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity at Memphis State University. He moved to Norfolk in 1989 where he lived and worked with his brother Carlton at Absolute Pest Management Inc. and C.E. Dean Construction. Vachel was a 17-year heart transplant recipient who lived a prosperous life before and after the surgery. A viewing will be held at E.H. Ford Mortuary, 3309 Elvis Presley Blvd., Memphis, on Friday, May 7, from 3 to 6 p.m. with a memorial service lead by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity from 6 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at Mount Zion AME Church, 42 S. Parkway, Memphis on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the burial immediately following.
