Virgie Mae Cox
Chesapeake - Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother, Virgie Mae Cox, 93, of the 4100 block of Santa Maria Drive passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013. A Lynchburg native, she was an active member of Alliance Church.
She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ola Motley. She is survived by her husband, Archer Haywood Cox; two daughters, Patricia Byrum (Bobby) of Chesapeake and Jane Cox Howell of Norfolk; a son, Michael W. Cox (Becky) of Madison Heights, VA; a sister, Binkie Lentz (Stan) of Bel Air, MD; six grandchildren, Matthew Cox (Jennifer), Greg Howell, Philip Cox, Rebekah Pekar (Mike), Brandon Cox and Kristen Cox; seven great-grandchildren: Caleb, Nathan, Luke, John, James and Lidia Cox and Micah Pekar. She was predeceased by four sisters, Mildred Dameron, Cackie Williamson, Ginnie Young and Polly Motley.
The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, in the funeral home chapel by Rev. Doug Ellenberger. Burial will be Friday, July 5, 1 p.m. in Fort Hill Memorial Park, Lynchburg, VA by Rev. Marvin Suitt.
