Walter Kessler Obituary

Walter J. Kessler CHESAPEAKE - Walter J. Kessler, 89, went to be with his Lord Monday Nov. 8, 2010. Mr. Kessler was born in Roanoke County, Virginia, the son of the late Mertie and Walter F. Kessler. Walter was a member and past deacon of Calvary Baptist Church, and he also was a member of Portsmouth Lodge No. 100 AF & AM and past District Deputy Grand Master of District No. 34. Walter served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Army serving in the European Theater during World War II. Walter was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Ruth, and his son, Walter L. Kessler. Surviving Mr. Kessler is his daughter, Judith Whitehurst and her husband Frank; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and four great- great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary Cornwell and her husband Richard. A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery with Dr. Philip Parker officiating. The family will receive friends at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in Walter's name to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund. I'm sorry to hear of the passing of Rt. Wor. Kessler. He was lodge secretary the year I petitioned Portsmouth Midday Lodge. I will miss this fine Mason and Brother.
