Walter Schendel

Walter G. Schendel MORELAND HILLS, Ohio - Walter G. Schendel, 88, passed away Friday, June 18, 2010. He was member of Lander Circle Kiwanis and served as president, member Moreland Hills Planning Commission, veteran captain of World War II, attended University of Maryland, enjoyed successful career as a regional director at International Harvester. Prior to moving to Moreland Hills in 1997, he resided in Virginia Beach where he founded Walt's London Bridge Sunoco, owned Dante's Restaurant, and served as sales executive for Norfolk Truck Center. Walt was a scratch golfer and also enjoyed boating, woodworking and painting. He will be missed by his beloved wife of 47 years, Monk (Rosella) Schendel; son, Jerry Schendel and wife Sharon of Fairfield, Conn.; daughter, Marti Dotson and husband Allan of Lawrenceville, Ga.; stepson, John Lamb of Moreland Hills, Ohio; stepdaughter, Randy Roach and husband Michael of Chicago, Ill.; four grandchildren; and two great-grand children. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th St., Cleveland, OH 44119. The family will receive friends to honor and pay one's respects to Walt on Wednesday, June 23, at 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at noon at Stroud- Lawrence Funeral Home, 95 South Franklin St., Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
