Warren Cobb Obituary

Warren W. Cobb Jr. NORFOLK - Warren W. Cobb Jr. passed away at his home Friday, May 28, 2010 at the age of 86. Warren was born June 25, 1923 in Paris, Ky., to the late Warren W. Cobb Sr. and Thelma Payne Cobb. Mr. Cobb attended the Citadel and then received an appointment to West Point from which he graduated in 1945. He was a member of the occupational forces in Japan and left the service as a first lieutenant. Working with his father's marine construction company brought the family to Norfolk, building piers at NOB and Little Creek Amphibious Base. Their vision of Little Creek prompted them to build Cobb's Marina. Warren Jr. operated the facility from its opening in 1958 with his wife, and later his children. He spent his life dedicated to nurturing his family and his legacy. Mr. Cobb is survived by his daughters, Peggy Cobb Duval and husband Jim, Nancy Cobb and husband Ralph Crowder and his son John W. Cobb and wife Julie; and his sister, Mary Dix of Illinois. He has nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Wiley Cobb. A celebration of his life will be held at Cobb's Marina in Norfolk on Sunday, June 6, between 6 and 8 p.m. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com. Warren's family would like remembrances to be by donation to UNICEF in lieu of flowers as he was always concerned with the welfare of unfortunate children.

For six years or more every morning when the sun would rise, Warren and Ruth would welcome the morning in our coffee shop for breakfast and watch the sun set for dinner. They were an intregal part of our daily lifes. Our life became so entwined with them that we felt the they considered us family as they watched our family grow. Both Warren and Ruth gave us advise on lifes lessons, they were both so caring and loving. They mean't more to us then people realized. Our deepest saddness is losing both of them, but ever more so, our hearts are heavy because the business of life let us drift away. We will deeply miss them, we talk of them often. We send our love and prays to the family.

One of the most kind spirited Gents I have ever met!
Warren always had a insightful message to teach us and a smile to back it up.

His Spirit will live on in his family that followed in his footsteps so bravely.......
Peace and love

This kind, gentle man always called me "Daughter" And so he was a father to me, right along with Peggy, Nancy and John, through my awkward tweenies and my terrible teens. I can still see his smiling, knowing eyes.
I know now that truly good people are rare, even extraordinary. Warren Cobb Jr. was a rare, extraordinary man. I will miss him for the rest of my life. I send my prayers, deepest condolences, support and love to the entire Cobb family. Always with you, Kath.
