Wendell Reid Obituary

Wendell Reid CHESAPEAKE - Wendell Reid, 76, of the 2900 block of Candlewood Circle, passed Jan. 4, 2011. Born Sept. 11, 1934, Wendell was a retired Longshoreman with the ILA Local 1248 in Norfolk for more than 38 years. Wendell was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, where he served on the Senior Usher Board and was the church sexton. Wendell is survived by his wife, Cecelia A. Reid; three daughters, Glenda Flood (Anthony), Sharon Fondern and Deirdre Williams (Clarence); five sons, Wendell Reid Jr., Vernon Reid (Linda), Dedric Reid (Tetia), Larome Reid and Von Reid; one sister, Hazel Seeberry; one brother, Fleetwood Reid (Nancy); 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, with Dr. L. Cherry officiating. Interment will be in the Reid family cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 2912 Candlewood Circle, one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church. Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel. Condolences may be offered at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
