William Affeldt Obituary

William J. Affeldt PORTSMOUTH - William J. Affeldt, 82, passed away May 7, 2010. He was a native of Cleveland and the son of the late Lydia S. and Harley A. Affeldt. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, a 60-year member of Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge No. 178, and a member of the Royal Arch Chapter No. 72. He retired from Shop No. 11 of Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was an Army veteran of Korea. William is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Affeldt; a brother, Harley P. Affeldt and wife Virginia of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons, William J. Affeldt Jr. and wife Libby of Roswell, Ga., Robert Affeldt and wife Debbie of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Jessica, Allison, Amanda and Ian; and nephew, Jim Affeldt of Norfolk. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Centenary United Methodist Church by the Rev. George Neas with Masonic rites. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 3312 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703 or to Bon Secour Hospice, 485 Rodman Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23707.
