William Vassar Obituary

William D. Vassar WINDSOR - William Dudley "Bill" Vassar Jr., 86, went to be with the Lord Sept. 30, 2010. He was a native of Southampton County, a son of the late Willie and Edith Hedgepeth Vasser, and was predeceased by two brothers, Wilbur and Totsie Vasser. Bill was a longtime resident of Florida where he was a businessman and entrepreneur. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Okeechobee, Fla., a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, and a member of Zuni Hunt Club. Survivors include two daughters, Judy V. Hedgepeth (Wayne) of Zuni and Billie F. Stidham (Michael) of Chesapeake; five grandchildren, Tammy Garrett, Troy Hedgepeth, and Michael, Madison, and Alan Stidham; one sister, Phyllis Council (Roy) of Zuni; one brother, Edward Lawrence Vasser (Shirley) of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Cribb officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home and other times at the home of Tammy Garrett, 305 Hidden Acres Circle, Windsor. The family requests memorials be made to a favorite charity. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
