William Westerman Obituary

William Westerman SPOTSYLVANIA - Capt. William R. "Westy" Westerman, 74, a retired U.S. Navy pilot, who served our country in the Navy for 30 years, died Oct. 3, 2010 in Fredericksburg, Va. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Anne; his two sons, David and his wife Michelle of York, Pa., and Scott of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren, Cory, Leah, Brennan, Raiden, Hannah and Maggie; his brother, Jim and wife Mary Ann of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and a host of many good friends and family. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 31440 Constitution Hwy., Locust Grove, Va. A funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lake of the Woods Church, with the Rev. Tom Schafer officiating. A second funeral service will be held at the Old Fort Myer Chapel Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery, with full honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bill Westerman Memorial Fund, c/o Lake of the Woods Church, 1 Church Lane, Locust Grove, VA 22508. Mrs. Westerman,
I am sorry to hear of the Captain's passing and pray our Lord will comfort you and your family. Captain Westerman was a good and compassionate Commanding Officer. I served with him onboard USS Inchon LPH-12 in 1981.
