Josefine Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 1, 2011.
Josefine B. Thompson NORFOLK - Our beloved Josie left us Tuesday morning, May 31, 2011 to join God and her family and friends that have passed before her. Josie was born Nov. 7, 1925 in Scherlebeck, Westfalia, Germany, the daughter of Anna Maria and Anton Schlüter. She married the love of her life, George Thompson Aug. 31, 1954, and proudly became a United States citizen June 4, 1958 in Norfolk. A lover of children her entire life, she started her career as a neonatal nurse in Germany and retired as the director of Tot Town on the Armed Forces Staff College. Extremely talented and generous, she loved to knit and crochet blankets and dress dolls and teddy bears to give away to various charities and to neighborhood children on Halloween and Christmas. In addition to her husband, she will be deeply missed by her son, Robert L. Thompson and wife Claire of Pennsylvania; and daughter, Georgianna (Gigi) Walentiny of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Matthew Walentiny of Richmond, Jennifer Walentiny Smith and family of Virginia Beach, James Walentiny of Washington, Joanne Lynch and family of Pennsylvania and Debbie Italiana and family of New Jersey; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk chapel, today from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at Smith & Williams Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please lovingly consider a donation to the Norfolk SPCA in her name.
