Avon - Elizabeth Gray Gaskins, "Libby", 81, of Avon, NC passed away on February 1, 2014. Born March 13, 1932 in Patchogue, NY to the late Ellis A Gray, Sr. and Caroline Rowland Gray, she moved with her family at the age of two to her father's home, Kinnakeet, NC. Libby graduated as Valedictorian of her class from the Avon School in 1949. She was married to Hatteras native, Warren O. Gaskins, Sr. in June of the following year. As a Coast Guard family, they moved often, finally settling for three decades in Chesapeake, Virginia before moving back to Kinnakeet in 1995.
Libby held the integral position of Matriarch of the Gaskins Family and performed her duties as such with strength and grace. She was an active member of St. John United Methodist Church and was co-founder and manager of The Gaskins Gallery and Hair by the Sea from 1992 until 2013. Throughout her life, Libby enjoyed few things more than a good day shopping.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Warren O. Gaskins, Sr.; daughter, Sheila Crowe and husband Ronald Crowe; son, Warren O. Gaskins, Jr. and daughter in-law, Denise Gaskins; grandchildren, Carrie and husband Don Dilworth; Warren (Tater) and wife Jennifer Gaskins; Ryan and wife Tiffany Meekins; Antoinette and husband Bryan Mattingly; and Amanda and husband Jeremy Tucker. She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren, Olivia, Foster, Sumner, Liam, Ruby, Jack, Cheyanne, Jane, Jackie Lynn, Libby Ann, Thomas and Taylor; brothers and sisters, Mary Lou Gray; Ellis A. Gray, Sr.; John D. Gray; and Cheryl Gray McDonald; lifelong best-friend June Jeanette and a large extended family.

A funeral service will be held in St. John United Methodist Church on Tuesday February 4th at 2:00. Visitation will be held for friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening at the church. Elizabeth will be laid to rest in the Ellis A. Gray Family Burial Ground.
