Robert H. O'Meara

Virginia Beach - Retired Chief Petty Officer Robert Henry O'Meara died on February 6, 2014.

The son of David and Carla O'Meara, he was born on November 8, 1941. Chief O'Meara served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman for nearly 25 years and as a reservist for 6 years. Following his military career, he worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, for 6 years. Known as "Doc" O'Meara among his friends and peers, he authored three books and hundreds of articles published in outdoor sports magazine in the US, France, Germany and Australia.

Chief O'Meara is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, David O'Meara and his wife Yvette; Jason and Aaron O'Meara; grandchildren, Jasmina, Isaac, Rachel and Jacob O'Meara; and sister, Russi Taylor.

The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. Military Honors Service to follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran's Cemetery. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
