Virginia Beach - Charles William Schreiber, 32, passed away on February 7, 2014 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on December 11, 1981 in Norfolk, Virginia, Charlie was the beloved son of Dr. Mark and Connie Schreiber.
After graduating with honors from Frank W. Cox High School in 2000, Charlie attended the University of Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2005. Charlie's post-collegiate career spanned a wide range of professions, including work as a loan officer for National City Mortgage, sales manager for ADS, mental health counselor for Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center, and, most recently, crisis intervention clinician for Sentara Healthcare.
Even from an early age, Charlie stood out among friends and family for his vivacity and sense of humor. As a young adult, Charlie channeled his energy into several arenas, earning the rank of Eagle Scout with Order of the Arrow, winning a citywide contest for young painters, and immersing himself in German language and culture at the Governor's German Academy. Charlie also developed his strong work ethic during these years as he balanced afterschool and summer jobs with a challenging course load and extracurricular activities.
Throughout his life, Charlie most enjoyed spending his time with family and close friends. Whether camping, hiking the Appalachian Trail, snowboarding, or visiting the beach, Charlie's love of the outdoors remained constant. In addition, Charlie had the good fortune to travel to numerous destinations across the United States and abroad, including Mexico, Canada, and most of Western Europe. In particular, he relished the opportunity on many of these trips to visit with relatives at gatherings of extended family.
In every situation and at every point of his life, Charlie was loved for his genuine warmth, quick wit, and sincere interest in helping other people.
He is survived by his parents, siblings Vanessa Chang (Howard), Laura Frank (David), Anne Stubbs (Mike), and John Schreiber, niece Julia Frank, and grandmother Sophie Schreiber, as well as two uncles, three aunts, and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents William Schreiber and Charles and Martha Rabe. He will be deeply missed.
A viewing for friends and family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, February 13 at the Great Neck Chapel of Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory, with a memorial service to follow at Bayside Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 15 at 2 p.m.
