Norfolk - Eugene Joseph Fitzpatrick, 76 years old, made his journey to be with our Lord after a brave battle with cancer on February 19TH, 2014. He was the son of the late Eugene and Stefania Fitzpatrick.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pa. September 18th, 1937. Known to his friends as "Fitz", He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Continental and Cargill Grain Elevators as a Weighman for 20 years. He loved country music and Tina Turner. He loved the Eagles and the Phillies. He had a natural green thumb and loved to watch hummingbirds in his garden. He loved to dance and he played the lotto, sometimes he even won!
He is preceded in death by his son John Fitzpatrick, and his brothers Steven and John Fitzpatrick.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years Mary Ellen (Slusher), son Richard (Fitz) Fitzpatrick, son Michael Fitzpatrick (Rhonda) of Hershey, Pa., and daughter Eugenia Brandenburg. His 7 grandchildren Todd Benton, Jennifer Barnett, Michelle Ballard, Michael Fitzpatrick II, Bridgett Rutkowski, Amanda Brandenburg, and Erika Brandenburg. And his 8 great-grandchildren Zacharee, Danielle, Alexander, Paisley, Savanna, Elizabeth, Leigha, and Rylye and his furry companion bubba Shane. His brother Stanley McDermott of Harleysville, Pa. and Sister Kathleen Lawless of Philadelphia, Pa. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors, Robert F. Mann, Thomas Alberico and their staff and the staff of Virginia Oncology for their wonderful care and kindness.
The viewing will be held Saturday, February 22nd, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home on Tidewater Drive. The service will be held Sunday, February 23rd at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
