Annie Lee Smith

Norfolk - Mrs Smith was born March 11, 1931 to the late Arthur and Annie Siles in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. She married George W. Smith in 1950. Shorty thereafter moved to the Hampton Roads area. She was employed by General Form Plastic Company for a number of years before working at the Norfolk Naval Base. Mrs Smith soon became employed by TRT now HRT as a bus driver where she worked for 15 years before retiring.

Mrs Smith was a member of Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church before becoming a member of Queen Street Baptist Church where she served faithfully.

Sports was in Mrs Smith's blood, averaging over 30 points a game while playing basketball for Bladen County Training School with a career high of 53 points.

This bloodline destined her son Bruce to gain prominence in the NFL and later be inducted into the Pro Football's Hall of Fame. She was there to share in this historic ceremony.

Mrs Smith is survived by her children Linda Lee Smith of Jonesboro, Ga, George S Smith of Norfolk, and Bruce B. Smith (Carmen) of Virginia Beach; six siblings: Katie L. Johnson of Washington, DC, Frances L. Floyd of Gastonia, NC, Willie Ruth and Pauletta Siles of Elizabethtown, NC, Barbara J. McPhee of Charlotte, NC, Arthur Siles, Jr of Germany; three grandchildren and three great-grand children; and special friends, Ms Gwendolyn Woods, Ms Diana Nixon ,Mrs Ella Burke and Mrs Beulah Butts.

Mrs Smith is preceded in death by her late husband George and her sister Betty Louise Johnson of Mansfield, Ohio.

Viewing March 10 at Graves Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev Dr Glenn Porter on Tues. at 11 a.m. at the Queen Street Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the home daily from 12 to 7 p.m. until the day of the funeral service.
