Norfolk - Amy Lee Hayes Castleberry, 63, of Norfolk Virginia died May 16th at home after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Annapolis MD on July 22nd 1950 and moved to Norfolk as a child. She graduated from Granby High School and attended Old Dominion University where she studied art and English. She also attended Konstindustriskolan in Gothenberg, Sweden where she studied art and interior design.
She is predeceased by her parents, Jack Lee Hayes and Laura Bonney Hayes. She is survived by her precious children, Nicholas Wheaton Castleberry, Jackson Stuart Castleberry (Michelle), Sarah Virginia Lee Castleberry, Cary Edward Buchanan Castleberry, and her grandson, Clark Hayes Castleberry. She is also survived by her sisters, Missy Hayes Giardina (Tim), Betsy Hayes Westerstrom (Rolf), and Nancy Hayes Pope (Tim) and her beloved nieces and nephews, Melissa, Erin, Carrie, Mandy, Kassi, Chris, Robin, Anna, Rolf-Erik, Timmy and Nickel.
Amy's passion for family, friends, and animals are evidenced in the paintings she painted and the books and stories she wrote. Her clever, funny, and creative perspectives will be sorely missed. She found great solace and renewal at the beach and was a tireless advocate of preserving historic architecture.
Special thanks and consideration goes to Gordon Michael Castleberry MD, and his wife Ann for their continued support and to her dear hospice caregivers, Becky, Julie, and Kim for their loving-kindness. And finally, special thanks and love to her amazing friends who spent so much their time with her and all her "army" of supporters.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 2nd at 1 p.m. at Old Saint Paul's Church, Downtown Norfolk, the Reverend Scott Hennessy, celebrant.
