Dr. Ryan Earl Cahoon

Norfolk - Dr. Ryan Earl Cahoon of Norfolk, a kind and gentle man, passed away at home on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the age of 36. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to all.

A native of Prince George, Virginia, Ryan graduated from Prince George High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society and Drum Major of the Prince George Royal Band. He did his undergraduate work at Virginia Polytechnic and State University where he earned a Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry. He then proceeded to attend Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia where he attained a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree. He practiced pharmacy at Walgreens Pharmacy for his initial post-graduate years and for the last 8 years had practiced pharmacy at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital where he looked after the needs of many. He was truly a healing inspiration to all who knew him. He was an avid fisherman, loved a good round of golf, loved traveling with his wife, and especially cherished his time spent with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Christine Cahoon and Clarence and Fanetta Rue. Ryan is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Emily Castillo Cahoon; son, Riley Easton Cahoon; soon-to-be-born daughter, Raelyn Elena Cahoon; father and mother, Ron and Linda Cahoon; sister and her husband, Lauren and Gerard Lipchak; uncle and his wife, Lynn and Margaret Cahoon; aunt and her husband, Tami and Dale Thomas; aunt and her husband, Judy and David Lyle; two cousins, Marcie Cahoon and Kaitlyn Thomas; parents-in-law, Onofre and Elena Castillo; sister-in-law and husband, Elaine and Dai Nguyen; sister-in-law and husband, Remy and Gene Jornales; and nieces, Rachel Nguyen, Rena Jornales, Chloe Jornales, and Tessa Jornales.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Woodlawn Funeral Home (6329 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA, US, 23502) from 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be conducted on Friday, May 30, 2014, at St. Pius X Catholic Church (7800 Halprin Dr, Norfolk, VA 23518) at 11 am with Fr. Nixon Negparanon and Fr. Timothy Kuhneman officiating. Interment and reception will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Ryan Cahoon Memorial Fund (www.gofundme.com/9b3eus) that will benefit their children, Riley and soon-to-be-born daughter, Raelyn Cahoon.
