1925 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Josephine M. Forrest

Virginia Beach - Josephine (Jo) Mijalich Forrest, loving sister of Dorothy J. Cibik, passed away May 30. She was born in New York City March 16, 1925, the beloved daughter of Joseph and Anna Mijalich, beloved stepdaughter of Antoinette Cibik Mijalich, and cherished wife of John Forrest. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, husband, and brother-in-law Col. Steve Cibik, USMC (retired). Jo is survived by her sister; niece Jacqueline Ann (Lin) Mace and her husband Benjamin D. Mace; nephew Stephen J. Cibik and his wife Carolyn; two great nieces, Jennifer Mace Briggs and husband Geoffrey Briggs, and Sarah N. Cibik; and two great nephews, Benjamin J. Mace and his wife Jennifer, and Stephen Nathaniel Cibik. She had five adoring great-great nieces and nephews, Hannah Mace, Caitlin Williams, Tristan Mace, Connor Briggs and Colin Briggs.

Jo worked in New York City for 20 years as a secretary, first at Lily-Tulip and then at Pfizer. After her husband's passing Jo rejoined her family in Virginia Beach where she worked at Miller & Rhoads until her retirement. She loved books and was a volunteer for many years at the City's library on Independence Blvd. Jo was gentle, kind and loving and had a wonderful sense of humor, keeping the hospital staff laughing up until the end. She will be missed greatly. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sentara Leigh Hospital for their compassionate care during her final week.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, in Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Davis Corner and Chesapeake Beach Fire and Rescue Squads, to which the family also extends their thanks and appreciation. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
